The echo of heavy footfalls could be heard. Uri, in full battle armour, had found his path led him through this region. His civilian clothes were rolled up into a bag on his bag, as was his tent and other things he would need in the wild. Behind this was his Gunlance. He had no intention of fighting but had been set upon by two elves. These had been dispatched quickly, their bodies hidden in the words. By the time they were missed he would be out of this area and onto a new place to stay. A quiet place where he could wait for the command to form up and fight in a new set of battles. When in this armour it was all business. They fired the first shot, they met him with aggression and he ended it with violence. If it wasn’t for the attack he would have changed into something less hostile looking but this place was to ‘hot’.
As night fell he set up camp. A fire had been made, a pot was on and a soup like meal was simmering nicely. Also around the camp were traps. Some were noise makers and others had a more painful surprise in store for any trespassers. He was still wearing his armour and helmet. He wouldn’t sleep without it tonight. You never knew when the enemy would attack. He sat on a rock nearby and let the sound and feeling of the woods into his mind.
As he waited for his meal to finish he read a book. It was a Bible like book giving the teachings of the God Emperor. He knew the book by heard but still read the words on its pages. These were His teachings and he lived by them. The interpretations though had become lost to him. He blamed the lack of major wars, he had been on ‘leave’ for two hundred years and it was starting to mess with his head. He was even beginning to find females attractive and this was a weakness he did not need. He couldn’t have a wife anyway, he would easily out live her and it only gave the enemy another way to attack him.
Suddenly he had a feeling he wasn’t alone. His Gunlance was folded but this made it into a single edged great sword. He could wield this one handed and to him it weighted next to nothing. He spoke and his voice came out metallic and machine like, it had a slight echo as well. It was in a normal tone, he didn’t want to shout the whole forest down but if anyone was nearby, they would hear him.
“Show yourself and your intentions. You have ten seconds to comply or I will proceed to attack and by the Emperor you will die.”
He scanned the area with the sense spells in his visor; it would only be a matter of time before the intruder was displayed on it.
