Alexia wandered down the beach, boots in hand, letting the sand go between her toes. She had seen other humans do this, and decided to give it a try. It was a confusing habit, was the conclusion that she had finally come to. First setting down her pack with her armour, weapons, and supplies, Alexia brushed the sand from her feet and pulled her boots back on. She stood once more and continued to walk.
Many of the people gathered there gave her odd looks and words were whispered about her in hushed tones. She had gotten used to such things over a century ago and merely glared at the ones she found the most repulsive. Alexia had to admit though, for a beach, she was dressed strangely. A dark cowl hid most of her face, only allowing her bright green eyes to be shown. She wore a long sleeve shirt, and a tunic over that, as well as long pants. She must look very strange to them indeed.
Finally, after many stares and many more steps, Alexia finally found an area of the beach without prying eyes. With a soft sigh, she set her supplies on the ground once more and leaned against them, staring at the ocean and thinking of less confusing times.

It was never hard for Uri to find a squad member in this world. The rumours of them spread far but that was when they were in their armour. When they wore their robes it was more whispers about strange monks and that was also a give away. It was though these mutterings he had heard of Venavmo. It had been a long time, about a hundred years since they last met. Uri’s mind had been going through some troubling times, thoughts of woman and doubts about previous decisions made in the name of his emperor. Uri’s amour was folded neatly in a sack on his back. He was also wearing his robes but none of his face could be seen. He believed very strongly about that and after an experience he had at a lake it was more so now then ever he follow this rule. The problem was that he had a huge sack on his back but had to hold his Gunlance in hand. It was covered in clothe and folded in half but it was still big. He held the handle in his right hand and had it lent back onto his shoulder. After wandering down the beech he found her. Unlike like her he kept his boots on, he hated the beach but the thought of catching up with an old comrade was too good to turn up.
“Famm drana oui yna meddma Venavmo. E fuhtanat frana oui ryt kuddah du. Ruf oui vehtehk drehkc eh drec luspyd tabnacceuh?”
He spoke in the language of his squad. It had been made six hundred years ago and allowed them to talk freely amongst themselves. He dropped his stuff next to hers and sat down. The weight of his gear made a small dent in the sand; his stuff wasn’t known to be light. He turned to look her in the face so to speak.
What happened next disturbed him. He found she had very pretty eyes. This had never been thought about before hell they had washed together and even slept in the same fox hole. Nothing like this had ever crossed his mind but now he couldn’t help but gaze. What made it worse was he suddenly looked away, blushing slightly. Thank the emperor his face wasn’t shown. His face was quite scared. Three deep ones ran down his cheek, across his forehead and diagonally contacting the two. It crossed over his nose. His bright blue eyes were also darting this way and that, he was starting to get worried now.
“Dra Asbanun ryc kejah ic y hela tyo pid so seht ryc paah dnuipmehk sa. Damm sa, ryja oui ryt yho... cdnyhka druikrdc? Oui ghuf, mega oui ryja paah drehgehk drehkc oui ryjhd druikrd uv pavuna? Hudrehk ranadelym zicd... drehkc oui hajan hudelat pavuna”
He then realized how dumb what he said sounded. In a very quickly before she even had a chance to answer
“Hu, hajan seht. E drehg E ys zicd punat ec ymm. Bmayca ekhuna fryd E cyet. E drehg yvdan drec E syo ryja du tajuda syho ruinc du bnyoan yht lmaycehk”
She probably thinks I’m a moron he thought. Then he realized what he had just thought and became even more worried.
Things were getting weird… he needed the Emperor more then ever now

A smile grew across Alexia's face at the words that she heard. It had been over a hundred long years since she had heard it. “Talesydun. Ed ryc paah duu muhk.” She turned her face towards him as he sat down beside her. A smirk replaced the smile on her lips at his armour sinking into the sand. Alexia loved being the fastest, and Uri's armour had always amused her. The second part of his statement earned a soft, wistful sigh. “Edc paah jano punehk. Hudrehk du tu. Zicd dnoehk du aynh ahuikr du dnyjam yht ayd.” She shrugged a little, and returned her eyes to the ocean, but not before noticing a change in her companion's behavior.
Alexia was about to question this when he spoke again. She thought about this, and on the inside felt some relief that she was not the only one thinking such thoughts. Lately, it had been like she was seeing the world in an all new light. Her appearance had never really been a concern for her before, but then she saw all the other women with their long hair... Once again, she was curious. So, she had stopped cutting it, and now it hung in her face, tickling her nose now and then. Such as now. Alexia reached up and brushed it from her face, further into her cowl as she was about to answer. However, she was again interrupted by Uri. She smiled a little at this, it was starting to feel like old times again.
Alexia chuckled a little. “Oui'na dra cysa yc ajan, tet oui ghuf dryd?” She looked at him again, the smile on her face spreading to her bright green eyes. “Fryd ypuid oui? Frana ryja oui paah ymm draca oaync?” She settled back against her pack, and stared at the ocean. The sound of the waves settling against the shore was a soothing thing, and constant. Much like a heart beat. The ocean was also constantly changing, always moving. Much like the humans that sought each other's companionship not that far away. “Ruf ryc bayla desa paah dnaydehk oui?”

From what she said, things had been slow. Uri had mainly been surviving off the land. Stealing was one thing he did in a rare case but in others it was simple. He would go to a village. They may need something big killed or maybe local bandits had been harassing them. For no questions asked and a fee he removed these threats and brought evidence back to the village it was these sorts of quests that had earned him of his meals. A few things had nearly got the better of him but as always he found a way and got the job done. He noticed her smile and he could help but think how pretty it was. Then he thought was it? When did I ever think this? Maybe if he distracted his mind to something else. In the past it has always been the both of them who ended up together on the battle field. He didn’t remember feeling anything he felt now then. It must be the lack of combat, it had to be. Unknown to him once every hundred years their memory was wiped, to a degree. Only combat info remained and past battles. The emotions felt were wiped away so that they would develop and stay they way they were. This time it hadn’t happened and their minds were developing and in Uri’s case it was a frightening time and all he wanted was to get stuck into a nice long war.
“Edc paah vyn du muhk yht oui ryja hu etay ruf kmyt E ys du ryja vuiht oui ykyeh druikr vnus fryd oui damm sa ed caasc mega oui ryjh'd paah tuehk cu famm. Ev oui fyhd fa luimt dnyjam dukadran vun y ped. E ryja seccat oui yht fuimt muja du cbaht suna desa fedr oui, nasaspan umt vekrdc yht umt pyhdan. Oui tuh'd ryja yho bmyhc tu oui? Asbanun ghufc ruf muhk ed femm pa demm fa haqd saad”
The same as ever comment relived him a little but he wondered why she would say it. Why would he change? Was their something wrong with him? Why the hell was he thinking this!? He looked out to the water. Maybe their he could find some form of safety.
“Cysa yc ajan rir? E ruba draenc hudrehk fnuhk fedr dryd.” This was said in jest but when he looked over to the people who had come to the beech for fun he felt his blood boil. No doubt a few had choice words to say about Firefly.
“Cdemm paddan drah dra hunsymc, muug yd dras. Ymm drao lyna ypuid ec frelr uha uv dra vamysac drao yna kuehk du dyga pylg yht tu Asbanun ghufc fryd du dras. Only after he had spoken he realised what he said. Luckily his hood held his embarrassment but his voice may have gave it away.
“Famm, is, oac. Yc E cyet, drao yna vuumc huf, frana oui raytat yvdan drec? Fa luimt ymfyoc ku du y pek ledo ev oui mega. Drao syo ryja y vaf zupc vun baubma fedr uin cgemmc. Alexia laughed a little. “Bmyhc? Fru ryc desa vun bmyhc eh bayla desa? Landyehmo hud sa.” She smiled again, thanking the Emperor that Uri had found her. She had gone a long while without someone to talk to, and found the companionship to be a wonderful thing. The smile stayed on her face as her comrade continued. “Drana ec hudrehk fnuhk fedr dryd. Edc y kuut drehk, E bnuseca.”
She had known Decimator long enough to know that there was something bothering him when he looked in the direction of the humans. Alexia listened quietly his rant, nodding in agreement at the foolishness. Her eyebrows rose though, when he mentioned beauty. Alexia had never thought herself to be beautiful, she had never seen the need to, regarding those that did as selfish and full of themselves. Now though, as she had begun to notice other women more, it began to mean more to her. She was quiet for a moment, trying to think of a proper response to what he had said. Alexia tilted her head a little to the side and grinned at his quick subject change.
“Bayla desa tuac dryd du ajanouha. Edc hudrehk du dnimo funno ypuid.” She shrugged a little and continued. “Tu hud drehg uv ouincamv yc 'ihpalusehk'. Oui cyjat syho mejac, ehlmitehk so ufh eh dra fync.” Alexia smiled a little at him, then returned her attention to the ocean once more and grabbed a fistful of sand, letting it flow through her fingers. She tried to distract herself, but could not forget what he had said a bout her. “Yht dryhg oui,” Alexia added, her voice a bit quieter than normal, “Vun dra lusbmesahd.”

Uri laughed at her comment, no plans for peace time huh?
“Ajah eh bayla desa drana yna pyddmac du pa vuikrd. Uin cyhedo ec uha dryd E caas du pa mucehk pid drana yna udranc. Gaabehk ouincmav vekrdehk ved yht frah edc haatat, bumelehk dra nyppma dryd drehg bayla desa ec hunsym. Druikr e femm ytsed, E tu ylra vun dra csugao pmuuto pyddma veamt E fyc syta vun. Hudrehk paddan drah tuehk fryd ouin syta vun eh Rec hysa.”
(Even in peace time there are battles to be fought. Our sanity is one that I seem to be losing but there are others. Keeping yourself fighting fit and when its needed, policing the rabble that think peace time is normal. Though I will admit, I do ache for the Smokey bloody battle field I was made for. Nothing better then doing what you’re made for in His name.)
At least he hadn’t changed so much. To him what was happening now made him feel like he didn’t know who he was anymore. It was scary but he smiled and nodded. He would hate to be shunned by his comrades for his weird way of thinking, well the weird way that was developing. He would follow the path the Emperor set for him though and walk it with His light in him. That way he could not go wrong and stray off the path. So far he had one hiccough but other then that he had done well. It took many days of prayer and cleansing for him to feel pure again, not that there was anything wrong with what he did or who it involved but he himself thought he had done wrong and needed to atone for his transgression.
Thankfully his out burst seem to have either gone unnoticed or ignored; both were good outcomes and made him feel better. The last thing he needed was to offend his comrade now he had found her. Still though her mention of their possible excuse did make him think that what they were doing was dumb. Whether it was peace time or not it still shouldn’t make people so, secure. Peace was a period in between wars an that was a fact, a fact that should make people think that maybe they should stay fighting fit and ready for the next big battle so when it came they were ready. But no, they played and soon when the next war kicks off they will all wonder what happened and panic due to their lack of preparation. As for the lives he saved, well he followed the words of the Emperor. Now though he had sent many troops to the next life to save those lives. The diversionary tactic had earned him his facial scars and the loss of one thousand men. It had worked and allowed victory in the main battle and helped save more lives then what was lost.
Thing was, that dead regiment still asked if it was worth it in his dreams.
He heard the thank you, and his heart quickened when he heard the last part. His hand reached out to hers a little but withdrew. Sometimes a moment needed you to do nothing, besides he didn’t want to drag her into his oblivion. It wouldn’t be fair. He crossed his arms and smiled looking down at the sand.
“Tu oui ajan fyhd du pa mega dras? Hu lynac eh dra funmt. Ghufehk oui ryja uhmo y meddma desa rana yht dryd eh dra pmehguv yh aoa ouin kuha. Hu upmekydeuhc, hu deac. E fuh'd pmyes oui ev oui tu. (Do you ever want to be like them? No cares in the world. Knowing you have only a little time here and that in the blink of an eye your gone. No obligations, no ties. I won't blame you if you do. Weird thoughts have found me to and I know you won’t forsake Him. As for the compliment, you know we don't compliment anything, what I said was fact and I would wage war for it. Don't think how much better you could be because your wasting excellent person you are now... or something like that you know I have never been good with words)
Uri had seen romance before but much like a dog and a TV he didn’t understand it and he never wanted to. What he said was from his heart and head.
“Cu fryd tu oui fyhd du tu huf? caasc fa yna cdilg fedr aylr udran vun y ped. Yho etayc? yht hu E cdemm lyh'd cfes”
(So what do you want to do now? seems we are stuck with each other for a bit. Any ideas? and no I still can't swim)

Alexia let her mind wander back to the good days for a moment, when the Emporer, blood, battle, and the life of the Elites was all that mattered to her. She had seen so many battles, killed so many, and had barely given any of it a passing thought. She was usually the first of her comrades on the battle field, plowing through the enemies, distracting them long enough for the rest of the attack. After all that, she usually found herself with Talesydun. She would never admit it to him, but his armour really did have some use, other than intimidation. They had made the perfect team on the battle field. He had the strongest defense and she the strongest offense. They had been nigh unstoppable. She smiled a little at the memory and returned her full attention to the present.
“Oui fuimt fyka fyn ujan cusadrehk mega dryd?”
( You would wage war over something like that?)
She chuckled a little at the prospect of war being fought over someone's beauty. It seemed so foolish to her. Alexia knew that there were plenty of women who would find that notion incredibly romantic. Alexia smiled at the notion of a war though. She missed the battle field.
Something that did strike as a bit odd, was the movement of her comrade's hand. It did a funny little twitch that she had never seen before, but there was obviously something behind it.
“Fro tet oui tu dryd? Fedr ouin ryht?”
(Why did you do that? With your hand?)
